Burton Leonard Lime Quarries, N Yorks - 28/07/2021

Had a free day today so we went up to this lovely reserve south of Ripon and north of Knaresborough, adjacent to the village of Burton Leonard. A lovely place with superb limestone grassland, uncommon in this part of the world. the star plant was the Squinancywort a very scarce plant this far north, usually sticking to the chalk downs in the South, but thriving on the Magnesian Limestone here.

Hutton Roof Crags, Westmorland - 11/07/2021

We stopped off at this beautiful mass of Limestone Pavement between Kirkby Lonsdale and Burton-in-Kendal to see some plants that specialise in the Clints and Grykes of Limestone Pavement. it is an NNR, SSSI and is managed by Cumbria Wildlife Trust. Well worth a visit, a lovely place. Succesfully saw the rare Dark Red Helleborine too.

Humphrey Head, Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria - 11/07/2021

We went to this beautiful limestone rocky peninsula near Grange-over-Sands on the second day I had free, a beautiful place managed by Cumbria Wildlife trust. It has a little sheltered saltmarsh behind it too. Lovely spot if you are ever in the area. Plant diversity is spectacular, with multiple rare species such as the Spiked Speedwell, rare and protected as a native plant by law. I had to do a bit of scrambling for these pics!

Burrow Marsh, Fleetwood, Lancashire - 10/07/2021

Travelled further afield on this free day to see some saltmarsh plants. I hoped to see the other two Sea Lavender species present - Rock and Lax-Flowered - but not today. Some more plants ticked off! Burrows Marsh is part of Barnaby Sands and Burrows Marsh nature reserve, which is a 150 hectare reserve of saltmarsh on the opposite bank of the River Wyre estuary to Fleetwood.
